Buying The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Theatrical Editions + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]
One of my fav movies and now it's in Blu-Ray! Not sure why there are so many negative reviews complaining about greedy studios, etc...that has nothing to do with the movie or quality of the product. If you don't want to buy another edition of the movie than don't...it's your choice you're not being duped. That's like saying you're being tricked for buying DVD's that are also on VHS? Pointless and unfair reviews by dumb people.Get more detail about The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy (Theatrical Editions + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray].

Buy Toy Story 3 (Four-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)
Toy Story 3 was thouroughly enjoyable for both my 9 year old and me. The mixture of humor, drama, and action appealed to all ages. We both left feeling that the series ended well. We are looking forward to enjoying the movie at home for years to come.Get more detail about Toy Story 3 (Four-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy).
Purchase Star Trek (Three-Disc Edition) [Blu-ray]
This is a fun film, whether you're a Trekkie or not. I nitpicked minor distractions like Zachary Quinto's lisp, the new Enterprise bridge that looks like a cosmetics department (makeover anyone?), the bad guy's ship that resembles a big hairball, a few scenes that seem disjointed and a few inconsistencies with plot development, but it's just plain silly fun - one of those movies that could just as easily be a comic book. Suspend your disbelief and enjoy.
Favorite satirical quote: Pike defining Starfleet as "A peacekeeping and humanitarian armada."
The one big flaw that I found VERY annoying was the camera work: incessant vibration (FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, SOMEBODY GO PURCHASE A TRIPOD) and frequent glitchy glare from light sources that gives you a feeling of confinement. It's as if the entire movie was filmed through a small dirty window by someone whose hands were shaking. (GET A BOTTLE OF WINDEX, CLEAN THE CAMERA LENS AND TRY HOLDING IT STEADY.)
I saw the movie for love of actors Leonard Nimoy and Bruce Greenwood and wasn't disappointed. Those two by themselves make it all worthwhile. The casting is wonderful. I only hope we get to see cameos from more of the original cast in sequels.
Addendum: I learned recently that special cameras were used to generate the "flaring" effects, and the shaking was a specific goal. Oh well. I still like the movie regardless. Get it. It's fun.

Order Avatar (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) [Blu-ray]
I've been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD, as I'm home bound, and I couldn't go to the movie theatre to see it. Sure, I know there is supposed to be an even better version of the movie coming out in 3-D, and that it will have a lot more extra stuff on it, but for people like me who have been waiting to see even what the movie is like, I give it my own 2 thumbs up.
This movie is so brilliant! I love Sci-Fi movies, so this movie just blew my mind! I can't believe that they originally started working on the script for this movie in 1994, just waiting for technology to catch up with the ideas and vision of Mr. Cameron. I'm glad that they waited to do this film right. The colors in this movie are really amazing too. My parents got to see this movie in 3-D at an IMAX theatre. Neither of my parents like Fantasy movies, but my Mom just kept going on and on about this movie. If it looks this awesome on my old beat up TV, I can't even imagine how awesome it must have been in the theater's.
I give this movie, even without all the "Special Features" and everything, a full five star rating that the movie itself deserves! If you haven't seen it, you are really missing out on a special treat! My advice, see it as soon as you can!Get more detail about Avatar (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) [Blu-ray].
Where To Buy Iron Man 2 (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy)
For this review, I'm not going to get into all the technical aspects of the movie or the other things that made this movie memorable. All I'm going to talk about it the lack of action in this movie (and series in general). I felt like this was an episode of the West Wing where the President (in this case Tony Stark) is getting pulled, manipulated and exploited and in the end it comes down to he and his real friends to get him out of the dilemma. I understand that the budget for Iron Man 2 was greatly increased from the first movie, but where was that money spent? Other than the Stark Convention floor, I didn't see anything in this installment that was any grander than the first. I feel like there's nothing but juxtaposition and exposition. No huge action scenes at all. For every hour of action, there is literally one minute of action. The action finale is a jumbled mess of angles and shots that leave a lot to be desired. I can only equate the finale between Stark and Whiplash to that of a charcoal grill that gets left unattended before the meat goes on. Sure, you can put more gas on the fire to get it hot again, but its going to be a few moments of flash and then back to being orange coals. I love the dialogue in the Iron Man movies, and I believe that it is the dialogue that sets these movies apart from the rest of the comic book films that have come out to date, but the third movie HAS to up the ante or it will become a one trick pony.
Also, I had a huge issue of the writers forgoing using the "Demon in a bottle" storyline for this movie, instead they use the arc reactor in his chest to "poison" him. Iron Man had a few stand out story lines since its creation and none were more human that demon in a bottle. They really dropped the ball on that part too.
All in all, I'll still buy the blu ray on release date. I'll still praise this movie and recommend it to friends. But in ten years, when we've only got 3(4 if we're lucky) Iron Man movies to go back and view, it'll be a lot of missed opportunities in this franchise.Get more detail about Iron Man 2 (Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy).
Shop For The Dark Knight (+ BD Live) [Blu-ray]
The Dark Knight is, quite simply, the greatest example of a comic-book inspired film, and one of the finest pieces of cinema ever. I've watched this movie in the theater, I've watched it on DVD, and I've watched it on blu-ray. Having said that, I can safely say that the blu-ray version best represents this movie, though the IMAX sequences are the only real selling points for the blu-ray format. See, the letterbox sequences are good, don't get me wrong, but there's noticeable grain all over the place. The IMAX sequences, on the other hand, are crystal clear and, obviously, in the 1.78:1 (16:9) ratio typical for HDTVs. You'll also be getting some special features, such as the Focus Points on the main disc. The Focus Points are actually very interesting, and thoroughly explain how several scenes were created. All of these are formatted in a 16:9 ratio. The second disc has some interesting documentaries, in 16:9 high-def no less, and art galleries. As I recall, I saw these documentaries on the History Channel shortly before or after TDK was released in North American theaters. If you saw them then, you'll still want to check them out.Get more detail about The Dark Knight (+ BD Live) [Blu-ray].
